Are you sure there is no fine print in the acount paperwork that will cost you something for that account closure? I find the banking sector in the USA generally rather parochial with many banking only having branches in one state or in some cases only in one town [yes, I understand the anti-monopoly laws]. Delta did something similar with their "live person" fee, which they have since discontinued.
